CHITWAN: Authorities have disposed of 199 unidentified bodies recovered in Chitwan from the Trishuli and Narayani rivers following the Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa, while 12 of the 272 bodies recovered so far have been identified.
The bodies were managed at the Devghat forest area of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1 through Sunday night.
According to Rameshwor Poudel, Chief Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Chitwan, 272 bodies have been recovered so far, of which 199 have been managed and 12 have been identified.
Poudel said DNA samples have been collected and preserved, while the unidentified bodies have been managed in the forest. Following identification and necessary procedures, the families have received the identified bodies. The unidentified bodies have been marked and documented so they can be handed over to the families of missing persons if they are subsequently identified.
Of the 272 bodies recovered so far, 110 are men, 62 are women, seven are boys and six are girls, while 87 are classified as other remains. As bodies continue to be recovered along the riverbanks, personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been jointly mobilized for search, recovery and management operations.
