Kathmandu sees uptick in minimum temperature on Saturday

KATHMANDU: The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley, which had declined for two consecutive days, rose on Saturday.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today. On Friday, the temperature at the same time stood at 5.3 degrees Celsius, before dropping further to 4.8 degrees Celsius by 8:45 am.

The Division clarified that the official minimum temperature is determined at 8:45 am. As a result, today’s final minimum temperature could be slightly lower than the early-morning reading.

Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was 7.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which fell to 6.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday and 5.3 degrees Celsius on Friday, before rising again today.

The Division records minimum and maximum temperatures across the country, including Kathmandu, on a daily basis. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm.

Meteorologists explain that cloudy conditions at night tend to keep minimum temperatures higher in the morning, while clear skies allow temperatures to drop. Conversely, during the daytime, cloud cover lowers maximum temperatures by blocking sunlight, whereas clear skies lead to warmer daytime conditions.
