Police seize illegal iPhones worth over Rs 2 million in Rupandehi



KATHMANDU: Police in Rupandehi have seized illegally imported iPhones worth approximately Rs 2.05 million that were allegedly smuggled into Nepal from India without paying customs duties.

The seizure was made on Monday at Beninagar in Ward No. 5 of Kotahimai Rural Municipality during a vehicle inspection carried out by a team deployed from the Majhgaun Area Police Office.

According to Rupandehi Police spokesperson DSP Krishna Kumar Chand, police stopped an Indian motorcycle bearing registration number UP 56 DX 8838 that was entering Nepal from India and found 35 Apple iPhones of various models concealed in the vehicle.

The confiscated iPhones, along with the motorcycle, have been handed over to the Bhairahawa Customs Office for further legal action, police said.
