UML assigns responsibility to Argarhiya despite announcing party exit

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has assigned party responsibility to Central Committee member Umashankar Argariya even after he announced his resignation from the party.

Argariya had left the party on Sunday, expressing dissatisfaction over increasing factionalism within the organization and claiming that his concerns were not being addressed.

However, five days after his resignation announcement, UML Chair KP Sharma Oli included him in the party’s inter-party directive (APANI), assigning him a key organizational role.

According to the directive, Argariya has been appointed as the coordinator for the “Party Awakening” campaign in Dhanusha.

A former minister, Argariya had joined UML on October 2022 after leaving the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), reportedly influenced by UML leader Mahesh Basnet.

However, in recent months, he had expressed dissatisfaction, saying he was not given adequate party responsibilities, which eventually led to his decision to quit UML.

Argariya had contested the 2022 and 2024 House of Representatives elections from Dhanusha-2 on a UML ticket but was defeated in both polls.

He had originally joined UML after leaving a Madhes-based party, but his political transition did not yield electoral success, leading to growing frustration within the party ranks.
