Butwal–Pokhara road section to be upgraded into expressway



KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to upgrade the Butwal–Pokhara section of the Siddhartha Highway into an expressway.

Presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026/27 at a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said the ongoing construction of the Siddhababa Tunnel would be completed within the next fiscal year.

According to the budget, the construction of the four-lane road from Abu Khaireni in Tanahun to Pokhara under the Prithvi Highway will also be completed soon.

Likewise, work on the Mugling–Abu Khaireni road section is set to begin shortly. The government will also upgrade 40 kilometres of road along the Nagdhunga–Mugling section, while the Nagdhunga Tunnel is scheduled to come into operation from July.

Finance Minister Wagle said Rs 6.55 billion has been allocated for these projects.
