Minister Timilsina stresses need to strengthen postal services

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina has stressed the need to strengthen postal services to make them more effective and accessible to citizens.

Speaking at a program organized by the Department of Postal Services at Babarmahal on Monday, the minister said postal services play an important role in delivering public services closer to people.

On the occasion, Minister Timilsina affixed first-day covers for three new postage stamps issued under the department’s approved philatelic program.

The stamps feature images of Java Dam (currency), Dhurkot Durbar in Gulmi and Narasimha Avatar Dance (Kartika Nach).

Timilsina said postage stamps help preserve and promote Nepal’s historical, religious and cultural heritage while strengthening national identity.

He also directed the department to present a work plan in line with the government’s 100-point roadmap and urged officials to begin initiatives that inspire public confidence.

The minister further called for modernizing postal services and accelerating the development of smart postal systems to make services more technology-friendly and efficient.

At the event, Ministry Secretary Laxmi Kumari Basnet said postage stamps can contribute to the preservation and promotion of Nepal’s archaeological and historical heritage.

Director General of the department,  Manmaya Pangeni Bhattarai said postage stamps also play an important role in promoting the country’s history, religion and culture internationally.

During the program, Minister Timilsina was welcomed by officials of the department and briefed about its activities.
