Landslide obstructs Mechi Highway

JHAPA: The Mechi Highway, which had been operating on a one-way system since last night following a previous landslide, was blocked again this morning due to another landslide.

The repeated blockage has disrupted transport services. Laxmi Bhandari, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Ilam, confirmed that the road is completely blocked this morning and said efforts are underway to clear it.

The highway had been partially reopened in one-way traffic since 10:50 pm yesterday after a dry landslide in the evening. However, the situation worsened this morning when another landslide occurred at a road repair site in Bagkhor, Rong Rural Municipality-4, Ilam.

During the landslide, rocks and debris fell onto the road, burying a truck, traveling from Ilam toward Jhapa, according to police reports.
