KATHMANDU: With 34 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission (EC) has made public sample ballot papers for various districts and constituencies.
The Commission has released sample ballots from all seven provinces. Separate ballot formats have been prepared for districts with a single constituency and for those with multiple constituencies.
According to the Commission, the size of the ballot paper has been determined by the number of candidates contesting in each constituency. Constituencies with more candidates will have larger ballot papers, while those with fewer candidates will have smaller ones.
Kathmandu, which has the highest number of constituencies and candidates, will therefore have comparatively larger ballot papers.
In Karnali Province, districts including Salyan, Dolpa, Mugu, Jumla, Kalikot, Humla, Jajarkot and Rukum West each have one constituency, while Dailekh and Surkhet have two constituencies. Sample ballot papers for these districts have been published accordingly.
Similarly, in Sudurpaschim Province, Bajura, Bajhang, Doti, Darchula, Baitadi and Dadeldhura each have one constituency, while Achham has two, Kanchanpur three and Kailali five constituencies. Samples of the corresponding ballot papers have also been released.
The Commission said that sample ballots from other districts will be published gradually. Printing of ballot papers is currently underway at the Janak Shiksha Material Center, and the Commission confirmed that ballot printing for the proportional representation system has already been completed.
In addition, the Commission has advanced voter awareness programs by preparing and distributing sample ballots to polling stations across various districts to help voters familiarize themselves with the voting process.
