Light to moderate rainfall likely today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions continue to influence weather across much of Nepal, with light to moderate rainfall expected in several areas, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Department said monsoon winds are currently active across Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces, as well as in parts of Gandaki Province and eastern Lumbini Province. The remaining parts of the country are experiencing the combined influence of westerly and local winds.

It added that the monsoon is expected to advance further over the remaining areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as throughout Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, within the next two to three days.

At present, skies are generally cloudy over Koshi and Madhesh provinces and the country’s hilly and mountainous regions, while the Terai is partly cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces, and at isolated locations in Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at some places in the hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Similarly, the Department has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi Province. Gusty winds are also possible at some places in the Terai of Koshi and across Madhesh Province.

Tonight, skies will remain generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at some places in the hilly areas of Lumbini Province. A few places in the mountainous regions are also likely to receive rain or snowfall.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at a few places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at many places in the Terai of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at some places in the Terai of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Department has also warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few locations in Koshi Province, while one or two places in Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may experience heavy rainfall.

In addition, gusty winds are likely at some places in the Terai of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as in Madhesh Province.
