Govt increases taxes on alcohol and cigarettes



KATHMANDU: The government has increased taxes on alcohol and cigarettes.

Presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year in a joint sitting of the Federal Parliament on Friday, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle said that the tax rates have been revised upward.

Excise duty on cigarettes has been increased by around 10 percent, along with hikes in taxes on alcohol and beer.

Finance Minister Dr. Wagle also announced that, from the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, microbreweries will be registered as alcohol-producing industries and brought under the excise duty regime.
