Vehicle fares increased by 5 percent

KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management has raised public transport fares by 5 percent.

The adjustment has been made under the automatic fare adjustment system, which increases or decreases inter-provincial public transport fares when fuel prices fluctuate by 5 percent or more.

According to the Department, the revised fares apply to passenger vehicles, goods vehicles operating on hilly roads, and goods vehicles operating in the Terai, effective Wednesday.

The average price of diesel rose from Rs 180.83 per liter to Rs 235.83 per liter, an increase of Rs 55 per liter. This represents a 30.41 percent rise compared to the average market price at the time of the previous fare adjustment, prompting the latest revision.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport had granted in-principle approval for the fare increase on the 12th. However, the department clarified that the fare adjustment does not apply to electric vehicles.
