3-day Tharu Food Festival to be held from April 30



BANKE: In a bid to promote Tharu cuisine, an indigenous food festival is being organized for the first time in Nepalgunj City.

The Tharu Food Festival will be held for three days, beginning April 30, according to General Manager of Soaltee Western Premier Nepal, Raj Bikram Shah.

The event aims to preserve and promote indigenous cuisines and the associated culture. “Experienced cooks will prepare food items so that visitors can enjoy the delicacies,” Shah said, adding that the festival is also expected to introduce the long-preserved food culture of the Tharu community to national and international markets.

Entry to the festival is free; however, visitors must purchase a Rs 500 voucher to sample the various food items. The festival will run daily from early morning until 11:00 pm. Cultural performances will also be held from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm each day.

Organizers said the event will showcase the living culture, arts, and traditions of the Tharu people.
