Sobha Pathak demands arrest of Mahesh Basnet

KATHMANDU: Sobha Pathak has approached the police, demanding the arrest of CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet. She had earlier filed a complaint accusing Basnet of rape.

On Sunday morning, Pathak reached the Kathmandu District Police Complex and the Government Attorney’s Office, calling for Basnet’s immediate arrest.

Pathak, also known as Januka Pathak, is a political activist and election candidate who gained public attention due to her legal and political actions against senior CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet.

She has accused Basnet of rape and formally petitioned for his arrest, claiming that he sexually abused her and that her earlier complaints were not properly addressed by authorities.

Alongside her activism, Pathak has filed her candidacy for the 2026 parliamentary elections from Bhaktapur-2, competing for the same seat as Basnet.
