Biplav rejects Prachanda’s call for party unity, calls it stale and failed rhetoric

CPN (Maoist) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ has rejected the call for party unity made by Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Biplav said that Prachanda’s reluctance to even cooperate in the upcoming March 5 elections has rendered the discourse on party unity stale, outdated and unsuccessful within the communist movement. In a statement posted on Facebook, Biplav wrote that a party unwilling to cooperate even on an electoral front has no moral or political ground to speak about unity. He described such calls as deceptive and ineffective tactics that no longer resonate within the communist movement.

Domestic flights resume after fog disrupts operations across airports

Domestic flights that were disrupted since early morning due to dense fog and mist across Kathmandu and several other parts of the country have now resumed. According to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) General Manager Tek Nath Sitoula, flights that had been grounded at airports including Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Rajbiraj, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Surkhet and Tumlingtar have gradually restarted as weather conditions improved from the afternoon.

Balendra Shah on Sudurpaschim tour as Rabi Lamichhane remains hospitalized

After completing his tour of eastern Nepal, senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra Shah is currently on a political outreach tour in Sudurpaschim Province. Following a two-day stay in Jhapa Constituency-5, Shah had traveled through the hill districts before returning briefly to Kathmandu three days ago. However, instead of resuming party activities in the capital, Shah sent his wife, Sabina Kafle, to continue door-to-door campaigning in Jhapa-5, while he himself embarked on a tour of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Bishwa Prakash Sharma says Nepali Congress transformed after Gen-Z movement

Nepali Congress Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said the party has successfully moved forward by transforming itself in the aftermath of the Gen-Z movement. Speaking at an election-focused program organized by Nepali Congress Ramechhap in Kathmandu on Thursday, Sharma said the party has undergone transformation at every level, from leadership selection to the nomination of election candidates.

High demand for tickets for Nepal matches in ICC T20 World Cup 2026

There has been strong demand for tickets for matches involving the Nepali national cricket team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. According to a report by The Times of India, tickets for Nepal’s four matches scheduled at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium have recorded the second-highest sales after India. The reports highlight that ticket demand for Nepal’s matches ranks just behind host nation India, reflecting the growing popularity of Nepali cricket among fans. For the tournament, Wankhede Stadium has been designated as Nepal’s home venue, where the team will play four group-stage matches.

HoR election highlights sharp generational divide as Gen-Z candidates face veteran leaders

The House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 has emerged as a striking symbol of Nepal’s ongoing debate over generational transition in politics, with candidates ranging from 25-year-old Gen-Z leaders to politicians well over 70 years of age contesting the polls. Just months ago, the Gen-Z movement of September 8 and 9 had reignited demands for an end to the dominance of old parties and long-entrenched leaders, calling for a transfer of political leadership to a younger generation. The movement, however, was overshadowed by tragedy after several teenagers lost their lives, raising expectations that the electoral process would reflect a decisive generational shift.

Gold, silver prices hit new record highs in Nepali market

Gold and silver prices in the Nepali market have reached new record highs once again on Thursday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold surged by Rs 20,500 per tola in a single day. Fine gold is being traded at Rs 339,300 per tola today, marking the highest price in history. On Wednesday, fine gold was traded at Rs 318,800 per tola.

Fire breaks out at Woodland Hotel in Durbar Marg

A fire broke out at Woodland Hotel in the Durbar Marg area of Kathmandu on Thursday morning. According to initial information, the fire started after a short circuit in the club section of the hotel. Nepal Police personnel and four fire engines deployed by Kathmandu Metropolitan City were immediately mobilized to the scene to control the blaze. Security personnel and firefighters are continuing efforts to bring the fire fully under control.

Kohalpur–Surkhet 132 kV transmission line construction completed

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has completed construction of the Kohalpur–Surkhet section of the 132 kV transmission line. The transmission line has been built under the Kohalpur–Surkhet–Dailekh 132 kV transmission line project with joint investment from the Government of Nepal and the Nepal Electricity Authority. NEA Spokesperson Rajan Dhakal said the newly completed transmission line will be integrated into the national power system immediately. According to him, electricity at a capacity of 132 kilovolts will be transmitted through the 132 kV double-circuit transmission line from the Kohalpur substation in Banke to the substation constructed at Subbakuna in Surkhet district, with testing scheduled to begin from Magh 16.

HoR polls: EC to use Nepal-made election materials

With 35 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to use domestically produced materials as much as possible. The policy aims to make the elections economical and transparent while promoting and encouraging local products. According to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, a total of 51 types of materials will be used in the elections, of which 37 are being procured in a decentralized manner from provincial and district levels.
