KATHMANDU: Nepali citizens who obtained their citizenship certificates in other districts can now obtain copies from designated District Administration Offices (DAOs) within the Kathmandu Valley.
Following a circular issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the District Administration Offices in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur have made arrangements to issue copies of citizenship certificates, regardless of the district in which the original certificates were issued.
According to a public notice issued by the Kathmandu District Administration Office, citizens who obtained their citizenship certificates in districts of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces can apply for copies at the Kathmandu DAO.
Similarly, those whose citizenship certificates were issued in districts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces can apply at the Lalitpur DAO, while those who obtained their certificates in Koshi and Madhesh provinces can apply at the Bhaktapur DAO.
Applicants must submit an application to the designated office to obtain a copy of their citizenship certificate. According to the notice, copies will be issued only after the applicant’s biometric and personal details are verified against records in the National Identity Management Information System and the Centralized Citizenship Information Management System.
However, applicants whose records cannot be located, those seeking to correct discrepancies in their names, surnames, dates of birth, or other personal details, and those whose citizenship documents are found to be suspicious during preliminary verification have been advised to contact the district administration office that originally issued their citizenship certificates.
