CHITWAN: Traffic accidents decreased across the 10 districts of Bagmati Province during this year’s Bijayadashami period compared with the same period last year, although the number of fatalities increased.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganga Bahadur Saru of the Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office in Ramnagar, 125 traffic accidents were recorded between Asoj 25 and Kartik 8 this year, resulting in 15 deaths.

During the corresponding period in 2082 BS, 135 accidents were recorded across the 10 districts, claiming five lives. A total of 332 people were injured in those accidents, compared with 293 this year.

Saru said a jeep accident in Sindhuli during this year’s Chhath festival caused significant damage, with three people still reported missing.

He added that Kavrepalanchowk recorded a higher number of accidents during this year’s Dashain festival. According to Saru, motorcycles were involved in 98 accidents during the festival, resulting in eight deaths.

He warned that the growing number of motorcycle-related accidents remained a concern.
