KATHMANDU: US President Donald Trump has pledged to provide Nepal with “any help that they need” in the aftermath of the devastating Bhotekoshi flash floods that struck the country on Wednesday, NBC News reported.
According to NBC News, Trump said he had spoken with Nepali officials and acknowledged that a number of Americans remain missing following the disaster.
“We’ve called Nepal, and we’ve offered any help that they need,” Trump was quoted as saying.
Earlier on Thursday, the US Department of State announced $500,000 in assistance to support flood-affected communities in Nepal. According to the US Embassy in Kathmandu, the assistance will be provided through a global award with Catholic Relief Services and will support emergency shelter, relief supplies, and water, sanitation and hygiene services for communities affected by the floods.
