RPP leader Gyanendra Shahi urges PM to pursue cooperation, not ordinances

KATHMANDU: Gyanendra Shahi of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has objected to the government’s reported plan to introduce legislation through ordinances, urging Prime Minister Balen Shah to move forward through parliamentary cooperation instead.

Shahi, who also leads the party’s parliamentary wing, said bypassing Parliament and governing through ordinances goes against democratic values and established parliamentary practices.

He noted that the government holds a near two-thirds majority in Parliament, making it easier to pass proposed bills through regular legislative procedures.

“Move forward through cooperation, not by bypassing Parliament,” Shahi said, warning that such practices could create long-term complications for the prime minister.

He urged the government to end the tendency of ruling through ordinances and to fully adhere to the parliamentary system by advancing legislation through Parliament.
