Two firms fined for violating consumer protection rules



KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined two firms for violating consumer protection laws during market monitoring.

West Shopping Center in Thamel was fined Rs 25,000 after officials found irregularities, in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, and the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2076 BS.

Similarly, Kantipur Café at the Trubhuvan International Airport was also fined Rs 25,000 for non-compliance.

Meanwhile, Heaven Handicraft in Thamel and Goodluck Trekking Shop in Thamel have been instructed to appear before the department with their business-related documents.

Out of 47 firms monitored on Monday, 43 were issued directives to make necessary corrections. The department said it has been carrying out regular inspections in the presence of consumer rights activists and other stakeholders.
