BHOJPUR: Chyangre Pokhari (pond) in Pauwadung Rural Municipality of Bhojpur district is increasingly gaining popularity as a tourist destination.
With conservation efforts and the introduction of boating services, the area has begun attracting a growing number of visitors.
The rural municipality has developed key infrastructure to promote the site’s tourism, religious and historical significance. The operation of two small boats in the pond has further boosted domestic tourist arrivals. In addition, Panchakanya Memorial Park has been constructed, along with other facilities aimed at enhancing visitor experience.
According to the rural municipality, the number of internal tourists has risen following conservation initiatives at the pond. Ward Chair Kiran Rai said the area is being developed with a focus on sustainable tourism infrastructure.
Ongoing efforts include tree plantation, landscaping and the construction of rest areas to further upgrade the park. The local government also plans to develop the pond and surrounding garden as an educational observation site while promoting both domestic and external tourism. The process to reconstruct the nearby Panchakanya Temple has also been initiated.
Local resident Sabitra Phuyal said visitors are drawn to the natural beauty of the pond. According to local legend, the pond was named “Chyangre” because mountain goats (Chyangra) once came there to drink water and rest. Residents also claim that the pond has never dried up, even during severe droughts.
The nearby market area is also known as Chyangre after the pond. Another local, Ram Pulami Magar, said tourists visit the site to relax, stroll around, take photographs and enjoy the scenery. He added that conservation efforts have significantly supported tourism growth.
Devotees gather at the Panchakanya Temple near the pond during various religious ceremonies. Locals believe that promoting this historically and religiously significant site will not only preserve its heritage but also improve their economic prospects.
