KATHMANDU: More than 1,500 personnel of the Armed Police Force (APF) have been deployed for search and rescue operations and disaster response following the floods in the Trishuli and Narayani river systems, triggered by flooding in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
According to the APF, a disaster response base has been established in the affected area, while specialized search and rescue teams, including personnel trained in diving operations, have been mobilized to search collapsed structures and other disaster-hit locations.
The teams have been conducting search and rescue operations in affected settlements, structures and hydropower projects where people are believed to have gone missing or lost contact.
The APF has also deployed trained sniffer dogs and six drones to support the operation. APF Joint Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa said the mobilized teams have so far recovered 98 bodies, rescued 30 injured people and evacuated 73 people from 12 different locations.
Meanwhile, a team of APF doctors has established a health camp in Nuwakot to provide immediate medical attention to people injured in the floods. The Nepal APF Hospital has kept 100 beds available for the treatment of flood victims requiring further care.
Similarly, 100-bed medical containers are being transported from the APF Disaster Management Training Academy in Kurintar to flood-affected areas. Additional medical containers from other locations have also been mobilized to support the emergency response.
