Heavy rain expected in parts of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds are currently influencing weather conditions across Nepal, with the monsoon trough located near the country’s central region, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

At present, the mountainous and hilly regions are generally cloudy. The Terai areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces are also generally cloudy, while the remaining Terai areas are partly cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the Division, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate to heavy rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the mountainous and hilly regions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at some places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at a few places in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

The Division has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, the mountainous areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the country. Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few places in the mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Similarly, moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and at a few places in the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning at some places, while a few places in the Terai of Sudurpaschim Province may experience similar conditions.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and in the hilly areas of Lumbini Province tonight.

The Division has urged people to take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion in vulnerable areas. It also advised the public to stay updated with weather information, as rainfall could affect daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road travel and air transport.
