NEPSE drops 33 points despite turnover exceeding Rs 6.7 billion



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined by 33.28 points on Monday, erasing the previous session’s gains of 7.90 points. Following the drop, the benchmark index closed at 2,701 points.

The market opened on a positive note and climbed to an intraday high of 2,744 points at around 12:13 pm before reversing course and remaining in negative territory for the rest of the session.

Despite the decline, trading activity increased significantly, with daily turnover rising to Rs 6.7 billion, up from Rs 4.67 billion in the previous session. Share prices of 35 companies advanced, while 235 declined and five remained unchanged.

Among sectoral indices, only the banking sector posted a gain, edging up 0.10 percent. The manufacturing and processing sector recorded the steepest decline, falling 2.30 percent. Other major losers included trading (2.23 percent), hotels and tourism (2.22 percent), hydropower (1.90 percent), development banks (1.82 percent), others (1.69 percent), microfinance (1.27 percent), life insurance (1.25 percent), non-life insurance (1.21 percent), finance (0.70 percent), and investment (0.70 percent).

Among gainers, newly listed Everest Color surged 15 percent, while Gorkhas Finance rose 3.86 percent and Dhaulagiri Laghubitta gained 3.11 percent.

In terms of trading value, Reliance Spinning Mills, Global IME Bank, Ridi Power, Kumari Bank, and Central Finance were the most actively traded companies during the session.
