NC leader Khatiwada questions state security after elderly couple murdered in Okhaldhunga

KATHMANDU: Following the public disclosure of the brutal murder of an elderly couple in Okhaldhunga last night, Nepali Congress leader Ramhari Khatiwada has raised serious questions about the state’s security system.

Referring to the incident in Chisankhugadhi Rural Municipality–6, Bhadaure, Khatiwada said the killing of the elderly couple has exposed weaknesses in state security.

The victims have been identified as 80-year-old Chandra Bikram Rai and his wife Chandramaya Rai, who were residing in Bohore of Bhadaure. According to police, the couple was murdered after a robbery at the grocery shop they had been operating, citing local residents.

District Police Office, Okhaldhunga, Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan KC said security personnel were heading to the incident site immediately after the case came to light.

Leader Khatiwada also expressed concern as this is the second such incident in the district within a month. About a month ago, a couple, 60-year-old Shobhitman Thapamagar and his wife Ratnamaya Thapamagar, was murdered in the same Chisankhugadhi Bhadaure area.

Taking to social media platform Facebook, Khatiwada wrote that a series of such incidents occurring one after another in Okhaldhunga gives the impression that the state is becoming increasingly weak in terms of security. He urged authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the murder of Chandra Bikram Rai and his wife and demanded strict action against those responsible.
