POKHARA: Four ministers from the CPN-UML serving in the Gandaki provincial government have resigned following a change in the political power equation in the province.
The ministers took the decision to resign at a meeting of the UML parliamentary party on Wednesday. The decision had been discussed and finalized at a parliamentary board meeting held on Tuesday.
Following the decision, the four ministers met Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey and submitted their resignations.
Those who resigned are Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Govinda Nepali; Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Bhim Karki; Minister for Industry and Tourism Yashoda Rimal; and Minister for Health Laxman Pandey.
The four ministers had been appointed as part of a cabinet reshuffle. They joined the Congress-led provincial government at that time.
However, the political situation in Gandaki has changed following a shift in the power equation between the parties. With a new UML-NCP equation emerging in the province, the UML ministers have decided to withdraw from the Nepali Congress-led government.
The resignations are expected to pave the way for the formation or restructuring of the provincial cabinet in line with the new political alignment. The UML’s decision to leave the government comes amid the changing coalition dynamics at the provincial level.
The development marks a significant change in the composition of the Gandaki provincial government, as the parties realign themselves according to the new political equation.
