KATHMANDU: Police have taken two individuals into custody on charges of leaking the question paper for the first semester examination of the Master of Business Studies (MBS) programme under the Faculty of Management at Tribhuvan University (TU).
According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel held discussions with Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki last night after reports of the question paper leak surfaced and directed the concerned authorities to take immediate action.
Following the instruction, police arrested two individuals allegedly involved in leaking the question paper on Sunday morning. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has confirmed the arrest and said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
Minister Pokharel reached the ministry on Saturday night and held discussions with officials concerned. He remained engaged in consultations with senior police officials and Tribhuvan University representatives throughout the night and formed an investigation committee to look into the incident.
The arrested individual is accused of making the MBS question paper public through social media platforms. Police said the question paper was shared in a WhatsApp group named “MBS First Sem Section C” within five minutes of the examination’s commencement.
The question paper for the master’s level “Organizational Behavior” subject was reportedly leaked on social media shortly after the examination began on July 24.
The Facebook page “TU Students” had alerted Tribhuvan University about the leak, claiming that the question paper was circulated online within minutes of the exam starting. The page also shared screenshots of the WhatsApp group where the paper was allegedly posted.
Following the incident, the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Management at Tribhuvan University wrote to the Cyber Bureau seeking investigation into the matter.
The Examination Control Division of Tribhuvan University has also formed a committee to investigate the leak. Meanwhile, the Examination Management Committee has decided to form a three-member probe committee under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Achyut Gyawali.
Deputy Director of the Monitoring Directorate Associate Professor Dr. Pushkar Raikhala and member of the Central Examinations Governing Board Associate Professor Dr. Mahesh Raj Ojha have been appointed as committee members.
The committee has been instructed to investigate the incident, establish the facts, and submit a report within seven working days.
