KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall have disrupted traffic on several major highways and road sections across the country.
According to Nepal Police, the nighttime ban on vehicle movement along the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli remains in effect until 5:00 am. Owing to the risk of flooding, all types of vehicles are prohibited from operating on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section between 6:00 pm and 4:00 am.
Similarly, all vehicular movement along the Kanti Lokpath has been suspended from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am until further notice due to monsoon-related risks.
Police Headquarters said the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 has been completely blocked after mud and debris accumulated on the roadway. Landslides have also blocked the Araniko Highway at Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 and the Kodari area of Ward No. 2 in Sindhupalchowk.
Traffic on the Lamosangu–Ramechhap road has been disrupted after a section of the road was washed away by the Sunkoshi River. Police said an alternative route has been arranged through the premises of the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative. The Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubesi unpaved road section has also been blocked following a landslide along the Pasang Lhamu Highway.
Likewise, the Jomsom–Korala road in Mustang has been completely blocked after the water level of the Ghyakar River rose in Baragung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality-3.
According to Nepal Police, the Department of Roads and local authorities are continuing efforts to clear the blocked roads and restore traffic as soon as possible.
