Toshima Karki and Sobita Gautam to contest for RSP women vice chair post

KATHMANDU: Dr. Toshima Karki and Sobita Gautam are set to compete for the women vice chair position of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The party’s Election Commission published the final list of candidates for office-bearer positions where consensus could not be reached, including Karki and Gautam for the women vice chair post.

According to sources, the party leadership had attempted to field current treasurer Lima Adhikari as the candidate for the position. However, after both Dr. Toshima Karki and Sobita Gautam insisted on maintaining their candidacies, Adhikari was reportedly asked to step aside.

Meanwhile, sources said party leaders had urged Sobita Gautam, who is also serving as Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, to reconsider her candidacy.

The suggestion was reportedly based on the party’s principle of “one person, one key responsibility,” aimed at avoiding dual leadership positions.

As consensus could not be reached for the women vice chair position, the party will now select the leadership for the post through an election.
