KATHMANDU: Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has said Prime Minister Balen Shah is preparing to appear in Parliament and respond to issues raised by lawmakers.
The Speaker made the statement on Tuesday after opposition parties continued obstructing proceedings in the House of Representatives over the Prime Minister’s absence ahead of the announcement of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.
“I am personally in communication with both the government and the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is preparing to come to Parliament,” Speaker Aryal said. “The Prime Minister is aware of the issues being raised in the House.”
He also stated that ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party whip Kabindra Burlakoti had informed him that the Prime Minister was preparing to address Parliament.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Speaker had allowed ministers to speak despite continued obstruction from opposition lawmakers. However, opposition parties jointly maintained their protest in the House.
Earlier, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Basana Thapa had urged the Speaker to issue a formal ruling directing the Prime Minister to attend Parliament.
However, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has so far refrained from issuing such a ruling in the Prime Minister’s name.
