Election Commission writes to Press Council to remove BBC’s controversial video

The Election Commission Nepal has written to the Press Council Nepal seeking the removal of a controversial video published by the BBC on Thursday. The Commission sent a formal letter to the Council requesting necessary action to take down the video content, which it described as controversial. Acting Chief Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari informed that the letter was dispatched to the Press Council urging it to intervene and halt the circulation of the BBC video material.

Flood-ravaged Roshi sees little election buzz

While election fervor grips much of the country ahead of the March 5 House of Representatives polls, flood-affected areas of Roshi in Kavrepalanchok Constituency-2 remain largely devoid of campaign activity. The election is being held by the interim government formed after the recent Gen-Z movement. However, in Roshi, which was severely hit by torrential rains in the second week of mid-October 2024 (Asoj 2081 BS), the atmosphere is markedly different.

Domestic, international flights to operate on election day

Domestic and international flights will continue to operate on the day of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. The Election Commission Nepal has taken various decisions to facilitate election security and the voting process. In this regard, the Commission has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs to create an environment for regular operation of air services on the election day. According to the decision, both domestic and international flights will remain operational. The Commission has also instructed that passengers holding valid air tickets be allowed to travel between the airport and their homes or hotels using private vehicles or transportation arranged by the respective airlines.

Prachanda-Nepal urge voters with six key agendas, vow to change people’s lives

The Nepali Communist Party has issued a joint appeal to voters as the election draws near, outlining six major agendas and pledging to transform people’s living conditions. Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal released the appeal on Thursday, placing national sovereignty, strengthening democracy, and socio-economic transformation at the center of their commitments. Describing the March 5 election as a historic opportunity, the leaders said 22 communist and socialist forces had unified to form the party. Stating that they were the force that “changed the system,” the two leaders pledged that the next phase would focus on “changing the people’s condition.”

NC President Thapa vows not to waste next five years, promises monthly progress report

Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the next five years will not be wasted and pledged to make public a monthly progress report if his party is elected. Addressing a provincial-level election rally of the Nepali Congress in Surkhet on Thursday, Thapa urged voters to ensure the party’s victory in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, saying the period from 2082 to 2087 BS would be made “golden” for the country. “The past five to six years were spent merely in forming and toppling governments. This has frustrated the youth. At a time when the country should have gained momentum, coalition politics derailed progress,” he said. “We have come with a dream to turn this opportunity into a golden chapter in Nepal’s history. We know the country’s limitations and we will address them.”

Gagan Thapa takes swipe at Balen, calls for constitutional changes for Karnali’s development

Gagan Kumar Thapa, President of the Nepali Congress, has said that constitutional and legal provisions must be amended to ensure meaningful development in Karnali Province. Addressing an election rally in Birendranagar, Surkhet, on Thursday, Thapa argued that structural reforms are necessary if Karnali is to overcome persistent poverty and underdevelopment. His remarks come days after senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Balendra Shah, commented in Birendranagar that Karnali had lagged behind due to old political forces.

Arzu Rana on India pilgrimage as Sher Bahadur Deuba travels to Singapore

Former Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba has been on a pilgrimage visit to India for the past four days, visiting prominent Hindu temples in Madhya Pradesh. During her visit, she offered prayers at the Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, as well as at the Omkareshwar Temple and the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. She has been performing religious rituals at the sites, and her pilgrimage is reported to be ongoing.

Maharajgunj Bhat-Bhateni reopens after Gen Z protest damage

Security bodies conduct on-site evaluation of border polling stations in Sunsari

Security agencies have carried out on-site inspections of polling stations located along the Nepal-India border in Sunsari district in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election on March 5. To ensure a peaceful and secure voting process, joint monitoring was conducted on Wednesday by representatives of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department in coordination with the district administration.

Oli continues voter outreach in Jhapa ahead of March 5 polls

As the House of Representatives election slated for March 5 draws closer, CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli is set to continue his meetings with voters in Jhapa today. Oli is scheduled to visit various locations in Kamal Rural Municipality to interact directly with local residents. According to Devendra Dahal, coordinator of the CPN-UML Election Mobilization Committee for Jhapa Constituency No. 5, Oli will hold meetings at eight different places within the rural municipality throughout Thursday.
