Kathmandu’s minimum temperature recorded at 8.5°C this morning

KAHTMANDU: Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

At the same time on Wednesday, the minimum temperature was 8.0 degrees Celsius. However, the final reading taken at 8:45 am had dropped to 7.7 degrees Celsius. The official minimum temperature is determined based on the 8:45 am measurement, and today’s final figure may decrease slightly or remain close to the early morning reading.

Earlier this week, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu Valley was 11.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 9.0 degrees Celsius on Monday. It stood at 9.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 7.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday, and 12 degrees Celsius on Friday.

Meteorologists explain that when the sky remains cloudy overnight, minimum temperatures tend to rise in the morning. In contrast, clear skies during the night usually cause temperatures to drop.

The pattern is reversed for maximum temperatures: cloudy conditions during the day lower the maximum temperature, while clear and sunny weather pushes it higher.

Despite daily fluctuations, meteorologists say overall temperatures are gradually increasing as the winter season draws to a close.
