BIRGUNJ: Imports from the Birgunj customs point have increased significantly in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, according to customs officials.
Goods and commodities worth Rs 438.21 billion were imported through the Birgunj customs point during the review period, marking a 15.3 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. In the first six months of last fiscal year, total imports through the point stood at Rs 380.6 billion.
Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, Udaya Singh Bista, said the customs point recorded impressive growth in imports over the past six months, reflecting a gradual recovery in trade activities.
Among the major imported items, petroleum products topped the list with imports worth Rs 90.6 billion, followed by iron and iron products valued at Rs 39.3 billion.
Other key imports through the Birgunj customs point include machinery and auto parts, soybean oil, as well as electrical machinery, goods and appliances.
Birgunj remains the country’s largest and busiest customs point, handling a major share of Nepal’s total imports.
