KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has been reported in many parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley. Rain has persisted since Wednesday due to the influence of a low-pressure system that developed in the Bay of Bengal.
Meteorologists have forecast continued rainfall today (Friday) and tomorrow, with weather conditions expected to gradually improve from Sunday.
The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has advised people across the country to remain cautious, as persistent rainfall could trigger floods, landslides and inundation.
According to the Division, moderate to heavy rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in most mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, and in some mountainous areas of Sudurpaschim Province.
Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely in most hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, most hilly areas of Karnali Province, some areas of Madhesh Province, and some hilly and Terai areas of Sudurpaschim Province.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, while very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in Lumbini and Gandaki provinces.
Heavy rainfall is also possible at one or two locations in Madhesh Province. The division has also warned of strong winds in some parts of the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
Meteorologists have advised people to avoid long-distance travel today and tomorrow and to take extra precautions in areas vulnerable to floods and landslides.
