Electronic voting underway to elect 99 central committee members at RSP’s first general convention

CHITWAN: Electronic voting is underway to elect 99 central committee members as part of the first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), currently being held in Chitwan.

According to Bhuwan KC, chief of the party’s Central Election Commission, voting began at around 12:30 am and is scheduled to conclude by 11:00 am on Thursday.

Although the RSP central committee consists of 158 members, only 99 members will be elected through voting. A total of 384 candidates are contesting for those positions, while the remaining members will be nominated later in accordance with the party’s statute.

Meanwhile, Rabi Lamichhane has already been elected unopposed as the party chair.

As per the party statute, the first phase includes elections for the chairperson and central committee members. Once those results are announced, voting will proceed to the second phase to elect eight office bearers.

Voting was delayed late into the night, prompting delegates to begin chanting slogans against the leadership. Following the disruption, a large number of security personnel were deployed at the convention venue.
