Harka Sampang tells PM Balen Shah not to cause undue suffering during eviction drive

KATHMANDU: Chair of the Shram Sanskriti Party and Member of the House of Representatives Harka Raj Rai (Harka Sampang) has urged Prime Minister Balen Shah not to inflict excessive hardship on people amid the ongoing eviction of squatter settlements.

Taking to Facebook on Saturday morning, Rai made the appeal as the government intensified its drive to clear informal settlements using bulldozers. He emphasized that land ultimately belongs to no one and called for a more humane approach.

“Balen… my suggestion to you—do not cause too much suffering to the people. Land belongs neither to you nor to me. One day, we all turn to dust and merge with the soil; that is the only truth,” he wrote.

Rai also advised the prime minister to focus on development works and move beyond past disputes.

“Focus on development, leave behind the old ‘moustache fight’. As of today, yours is already the longer one—let it go,” he added.
