PM Karki calls for national unity to resolve dissensions

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has stressed that the country’s ongoing disturbances, irregularities, and corruption should be addressed through mutual cooperation and coordination.

Speaking at the first convocation ceremony of Nepal Open University, held in Kathmandu today with Prime Minister Karki as the chief guest and Chancellor, she emphasized the importance of solving national challenges by creating employment opportunities through quality higher education.

“Our country will not be built by others; we will build it ourselves. We must confront disturbances and eliminate corruption,” Prime Minister Karki said. “I urge the graduating students to participate actively in the campaign to build the nation. The university should prevent talent drain, respond to the evolving needs of today’s youth, and provide production-oriented education so that graduates can contribute meaningfully to the country.”

At the ceremony, chief guest and educationist, former Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Kedar Bhakta Mathema, highlighted the responsibility of Open University students to engage in lifelong learning and continue their education even under challenging circumstances.

The program was attended by graduating students from the university’s faculties, which include Science, Health and Technology, Social Sciences and Education, and Management and Law.

Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Open University, Dr. Shilu Manandhar Bajracharya, said the institution has been providing higher education in a flexible, accessible manner through distance learning, catering to people with busy lifestyles.
