Measles infection spreads in Malangwa

SARLAHI: Measles infection has spread in Malangwa Municipality–3, with seven confirmed cases reported so far.

Head of the Malangwa Municipal Health Office Dr Nawal Kishore Jha said that the infection has been detected in the area and that 22 suspected cases have been placed under home observation. As measles is highly contagious, the health office has urged residents to take necessary precautions to prevent further transmission.

To contain the outbreak and protect children, the municipality will conduct a special measles vaccination campaign from January 26-30 , Dr Jha said. Under the campaign, children aged six months to 14 years in wards 3, 2, 4, 8, 9 and 10 will be vaccinated, according to the Malangwa Municipality Health Branch.

The health branch has called on parents to ensure their children receive the vaccine at the nearest vaccination centre, stressing that timely immunisation is key to preventing infectious diseases such as measles.
