KATHMANDU: Lok Raj Pandey, coordinator of the Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University Struggle Committee, has warned that the committee will launch a counter hunger strike if Dr Govinda KC does not withdraw his ongoing protest against the university.
In a video message, Pandey said the Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University was established through the long struggle, sacrifices and dedication of the people of Sudurpaschim, adding that opposition to the institution is unacceptable.
He urged Dr KC to immediately end his hunger strike, which demands the cancellation of appointments made to key positions at the university. Pandey also warned that the committee would stage a counter protest against both the government and Dr KC if the demands were not withdrawn.
Stating that the sentiments, rights and aspirations of the people of Sudurpaschim must be respected, Pandey called on all stakeholders not to undermine the process of operationalizing the university.
Meanwhile, Dr KC is continuing his 24th hunger strike in Dhangadhi, where he has included issues related to the Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University alongside his longstanding campaign for reforms in medical education.
Dr KC has argued that the process of establishing the university in Geta was flawed and rushed, alleging that the legal framework was introduced in a manner that benefits vested private interests.
