Monsoon conditions persist; heavy rainfall likely today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions continue to affect the country, with rain likely in various parts of Nepal today.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the monsoon trough is currently near its average position. The weather is generally cloudy over the hilly and mountainous regions, while the Terai is partly cloudy. Light rainfall is occurring at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Division has forecast generally cloudy conditions over the hilly and mountainous regions this afternoon, with partly cloudy skies over the Terai. There is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places in the hilly and mountainous regions.

Similar weather is likely in some parts of the Terai of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and at one or two places in the Terai of Koshi, Madhesh and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Lumbini Province and in the hilly and mountainous regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, according to the Division.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the hilly and mountainous regions.

Similar conditions are expected in some parts of the Terai of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at one or two places in the Terai of Madhesh Province, the Division said.
