KATHMANDU: Nepal imported 10,845 electric vehicles (EVs) worth Rs 25.55 billion during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, according to data released by the Department of Customs.
The imports included electric vehicles of various models and capacities, ranging from 50 kilowatts to more than 200 kilowatts, reflecting the growing demand for EVs in the country.
Customs data show that 3,680 electric vehicles with a capacity of up to 50 kilowatts were imported during the review period. These imports were valued at approximately Rs 5.65 billion.
Likewise, 6,357 electric vehicles with capacities ranging from 51 kilowatts to 100 kilowatts entered the country during the same period, accounting for imports worth Rs 16.49 billion.
The figures indicate that vehicles in the 51–100 kilowatt category continued to dominate Nepal’s EV market, both in terms of import volume and value.
The steady rise in electric vehicle imports has been driven by increasing consumer interest, supportive government policies, and the expansion of charging infrastructure across the country.
