KATHMANDU: Voting is taking place today to elect central members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), with the party using electronic voting machines for the first time in its internal election process.
According to the party, voting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am. However, sources said there is uncertainty over whether polling will start on time due to late-night filing of nominations.
Rabi Lamichhane has already been elected unopposed as party president.
Following the election of central members, preparations are underway to select office bearers, as per the party statute, which provides that office bearers are chosen by general convention delegates after the president and central committee are finalized.
The RSP stated that both the central committee elections and selection of office bearers are expected to be completed today, with results to be announced on the same day.
The party’s first general convention has been underway in Chitwan since June 21. Although initially scheduled to conclude on June 23, the event was extended due to delays in finalizing delegates caused by technical issues. Around 4,000 delegates are participating in the convention.
