Lumbini Province to introduce production, employment-focused budget

SIDDHARTHANAGAR: The Lumbini Province government is preparing a production- and employment-oriented budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 BS, with priority given to infrastructure development and social justice.

Presenting the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill, 2083 BS, before the Lumbini Province Assembly, Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Dhanendra Karki said agriculture, industry, tourism, energy and infrastructure development would serve as the key pillars for achieving economic prosperity.

He said the government plans to implement skill-based training, self-employment and startup programmes targeting youths to generate employment opportunities within the province.

“The government has adopted a policy of revitalizing the economy through maximum utilization of locally available means and resources,” Karki said, adding that investment in production-based sectors would remain a major focus.

According to the minister, the upcoming budget will also prioritize the expansion of digital governance, reduction of recurrent expenditures, and completion of incomplete and multi-year projects.

Health, education, agriculture, tourism and social empowerment programmes have also been identified as key priority areas in the new budget.

Karki further said the province government aims to develop Lumbini into an internationally recognized center for religious and wellness tourism while improving public service delivery and promoting cooperation with the private sector.
