UML Chair Oli set to respond as party leaders intensify calls for leadership change

KATHMANDU: The central Secretariat meeting of the CPN-UML, which has been ongoing for the past three days, is scheduled to continue today.

According to the party, the meeting will begin at 11:30 am on Sunday at the residence of party Chair KP Sharma Oli in Gundu, Bhaktapur.

Chair Oli, who has come under pressure from leaders close to him to step down, is expected to respond to the concerns raised during the meeting. Before Oli’s response, the remaining leaders are scheduled to present their views.

Most leaders who spoke during Friday and Saturday’s sessions criticized Oli’s leadership style and urged him to pave the way for generational transformation within the party.

Sources said that a large majority of UML Secretariat members are in favor of organizational reform and leadership restructuring.

Four vice-chairpersons spoke on Friday, while General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, three deputy general secretaries, and five secretaries presented their views on Saturday. Except for Secretary Mahesh Basnet, most leaders reportedly argued that Oli should resign to facilitate party unity and renewal.

However, Oli has already made it clear that he does not intend to step down.
