17 doctors removed from registration after acquiring foreign citizenship



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Medical Council has removed 17 doctors from its registration records after they acquired foreign citizenship.

Issuing a notice on Friday, the council said the decision was taken in line with provisions of the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2006, which do not allow continued registration of doctors who renounce Nepali citizenship and obtain foreign nationality.

The council stated that the decision has been implemented with immediate effect in accordance with the Nepal Medical Council Act, 1964, and its regulations.

According to the council, the deregistered doctors had obtained citizenship of countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Portugal, and India.
