Nain Singh Mahar stresses party unity to strengthen Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Nain Singh Mahar has said that party unity is the most important requirement at present to further strengthen the Nepali Congress, which carries a historic legacy.

Addressing a program organized by Nepali Congress Chitwan, Mahar stressed the need to elevate the party’s glorious history and its long-standing commitment to a moderate democratic ideology.

He described ideological diversity and internal democracy within the party as its core strengths. Recalling how BP Koirala and Subarna Shumsher unified different forces to build the Nepali Congress, Mahar said the party must once again commit to building a strong and united organization on that foundation.

Mahar also stressed the need for honest self-assessment from leadership to grassroots levels to make the party more people-oriented, urging leaders to embrace diverse views with the highest level of tolerance.

Citing positive examples from global politics, he pointed to the historic revival of the UK Labour Party and said the Nepali Congress should adopt a path of strategic renewal.

He added that past factional disputes and internal power struggles should now be set aside, with the focus shifting entirely toward a unified Nepali Congress.

Mahar also called for organizational and ideological restructuring through the party’s upcoming 15th general convention, urging leaders to move forward by shedding past biases and beginning a new journey.
