RSP Chair Lamichhane challenges Gagan Thapa, vows uninterrupted development

ITAHARI: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane on Tuesday targeted Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa over his remarks on development laws, questioning the logic of amending multiple laws after decades in politics.

Addressing a party election rally in Itahari, Lamichhane referred to comments made by Thapa, who had suggested that after serving as a lawmaker and minister for 20 years, it was necessary to change laws to speed up construction. “After being an MP and minister for 20 years, only now you realize that 12–15 laws need to be amended to build roads and infrastructure? Keep that knowledge to yourself,” Lamichhane said.

He also addressed a previous statement by RSP senior leader Balendra Shah, who had suggested binding or confining contractors to ensure faster work, clarifying that such remarks were meant figuratively. Lamichhane defended Shah, saying the reference was to legal enforcement, not physical restraint.

Lamichhane assured that Nepal’s development would move forward without obstruction. He encouraged contractors to prepare for continuous work, including multi-shift operations and using available equipment efficiently, asserting that no one would be able to block progress.
