KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has expressed concern that curfews and prohibitory orders being imposed in some areas could create fear among voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
Addressing a press conference at the party office in Chyasal on Tuesday, UML officials said that while curfews and restrictions in parts of the Tarai-Madhesh region may provide a temporary sense of security, they risk undermining voters’ constitutional right to cast their ballots in a fear-free environment.
Min Bahadur Shahi, UML’s chief election press coordinator, urged the government to ensure robust security for a peaceful election. He also emphasized the party’s firm stance that the elections must be held on the scheduled date, despite circulating rumors of a possible postponement.
UML further raised objections over opinion polls, warning that one-sided publicized data could influence voter psychology. The party also criticized the spread of false information, malicious propaganda, and fabricated content, saying such activities pose a serious challenge to social harmony and could intensify political polarization.
