No security threat seen for elections, says high-level committee

KATHMANDU: A high-level election security committee has concluded that no security threat has been observed so far for the upcoming elections.

A meeting of the High-Level Election Security Committee held at the Election Commission Nepal on Tuesday concluded that security arrangements for the elections are robust and no significant challenges have surfaced. Chiefs of various security agencies briefed the meeting on the overall law and order situation across the country.

According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the meeting also discussed possible security challenges that could arise during the elections and measures to address them appropriately.

Security agency chiefs informed the committee that the security situation remains strong and that a conducive environment has been created for political parties to carry out their activities peacefully and for voters to cast their ballots without fear.

Bhattarai said that in a few places where minor incidents occurred, the active role of local administration prevented any untoward situations. He added that the atmosphere across the country is gradually becoming election-focused.

The spokesperson further stated that the Commission has recommended the government to declare three days of public holiday to facilitate voters traveling to and from their homes for voting. He expressed confidence that this would encourage active participation in the elections.
