Min Bishwakarma says all ready to accept Deuba as senior leader

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Min Bishwakarma said he joined the faction recognized as official by the Election Commission and the court to prevent a split in the party.

Speaking at an interaction organized by the Reporters Club Nepal in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Bishwakarma said that although the legal dispute over the party’s official status was ongoing, he had chosen to stand with the Congress faction recognized by the Election Commission and the court to keep the party united.

He described the incident involving Sher Bahadur Deuba on Bhadra 24 as unfortunate and condemnable, and said everyone was ready to accept Deuba as the party’s senior leader after his return from treatment.

He said Deuba should attend the general convention convened by the official party office in Sanepa as the chief guest and inaugurate the event.

Bishwakarma said both Gagan Thapa and Sher Bahadur Deuba were willing to meet and hold dialogue. He claimed efforts were underway to facilitate direct talks and reach an agreement within a few days, with the aim of making the 15th General Convention a convention of party unity.

He said the Nepali Congress could not secure public support, strength and votes without bringing together the official party office in Sanepa and the dissatisfied faction based in Chundevi, adding that there was no alternative to both sides moving forward together.
