KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is holding municipal-level conventions across the country today as part of preparations for its 15th General Convention and to strengthen the party’s organizational structure at the local level.
The Nepali Congress Central Election Committee said ward-level leadership elections have been completed across the country in an enthusiastic and peaceful manner, except in a few isolated places. The conventions were completed in all wards of flood- and landslide-affected Nuwakot and Dhading on Tuesday.
Similarly, the election committee said conventions have been successfully completed in some wards of Siraha, Saptari, Sarlahi and Parsa in Madhesh Province. In Rasuwa, which suffered significant loss of life and property due to floods and landslides, the convention will be held a few days later in view of the prevailing situation, according to Election Committee Member Secretary Raju Katuwal.
Under the party’s new statute and election guidelines, municipal conventions being held today will elect five office-bearers in each municipality: a chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, including one woman, a secretary and a joint secretary. The treasurer will be nominated by the chairperson from among the elected members of the municipal working committee.
